International Women’s Day has been celebrated since the early 1900s, with the inaugural celebration taking place March 8th, 1911.
It’s a day to recognize the achievements of women all over the world for the amazing things they do in every walk of life.
This year’s theme is Each for Equal #EachforEqual, inspiring us to change gender bias throughout the world.

The former First Lady of the United States debut book was a bestseller when it was released in 2018. I am Malala: The Story of the Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban – Malala Yousafzai
Malala Yousafzai is now widely known as an activist for female education and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014. However, when she was just 15, Malala was shot by the Taliban on a school bus home.
Her story has been watched and read by thousands, and her book covers the story of her recovery, family life and her continued fight for the education of girls.
We Should All Be Feminists – Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is the award-winning author of well-known books like ‘Americanah’ and ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’.
In 2012, TED released a TEDx video with Chimamanda titled “We Should All Be Feminists”, which is a conversation around the subject of feminism. You can listen to it on TED’s website here.
‘We Should All Be Feminists’ has received a lot of attention from the world of pop culture. One of the quotes from Chimamanda’s essay was even used as a speech at the beginning of Beyoncé song Flawless, from her 2013 self-titled album.
Chimamanda’s TEDx event was adapted into a book length essay of the same name in 2014 and is a great read for both men and women alike.

Written by the second ever female Supreme Court, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s ‘My Own Words’ details Ruth’s experiences fighting for justice in the US and her own thoughts and opinions on several topics, including gender equality, women’s rights and the US constitution.
RBG has widely become known as one of America’s most influential women, as well as a popular internet meme!
