As Abraham Lincoln once said: “All that I am, or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.”

With Mother’s Day coming in America, we think it’s important that every family makes the most of the occasion to show their appreciation for all the moms out there!

Given the year that we’ve all had, having a support network through your family and friends has never meant more to us.

So, for Mother’s Day 2021, why not make your mom feel extra special and show her how much she means to you by doing one or all of our suggestions below!

Being thoughtful doesn’t mean buying big

Often when we think of treating someone we love, we envisage that we’ll have to break the bank on presents, trips, or experiences. But that might not be the right approach this year, with many people struggling financially due to the pandemic.

In actual fact, some of the gifts that cost the least can mean the most to those closest to you. You could try your hand at some crafting, by creating something like custom pottery or plates to give a personal touch. Or you could get creative in the kitchen by making some preserves or flavoured salts which cost hardly anything but keep for ages, and can be really nicely packaged to make them extra special.

Another winning way of celebrating your family is to create a photo collage – whether you’ve got old-school developed photos you can use, or you have a digital archive which you can pick from and print off, these are perfect for Mother’s Day. And the only cost you really need to account for is a picture frame!

Make a meal of things

There’s no more effective way of bringing a family together and celebrating one person than taking the care to make an amazing meal.

So often, it is moms who provide us with great food to keep us going every day whilst we’re growing up and into adulthood. So, Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity for the rest of us to take over and give her a meal to remember.

You could opt for a collection of her favorite dishes, which will always be a winner. Or, if you want to add some more variety and bring back some memories, you could choose a different course that reminds you of a family holiday or a favorite meal out!

If you’ve got siblings you can quite easily spread the workload, so that each of you takes on one course each for example, and that way you can all show mom your appreciation throughout the meal!

Celebrate all the women in your life!

Obviously your mom is the main person you want to focus on for the day, but you can also make the other women in your family feel special.

Remember, without your grandmother you wouldn’t be here either! So why not treat her to a bunch of flowers of box of chocolates too, to show how important that they are to your family. And if you’ve got a sister who has given you a niece or a nephew, then show some love to them too!

And of course, if you have children and are married or have a partner – make sure you show the appreciation for them that they deserve, because day-to-day it can be easy to forget the impact that they have.

Stay close, even if you can’t be together

Circumstances are very different these days. But if the last year has shown us anything, it is that you don’t necessarily have to be in physical proximity to remain in close contact with the people around you.

Whether your mom is just a few doors down but you aren’t able to see her on the day, or whether you live in a different state or country, you can remain close to her by arranging an online video call. If you want to make more of an occasion out of it you could create a quiz for you and your family to play, or even do an online escape room!

Wherever you are in the world, appreciating your family is something that keeps us close in tricky times. This year’s Mother’s Day is a great opportunity to take a moment to show her how much she means and how important she is!

Everyone from Opinion Outpost wishes you Happy Mother’s Day!
